Tower crane rigger renewal in NYC
This is the NYC DOB-approved 8-hour renewal course for tower crane rigging. It serves two groups: holders of an NYC Tower Crane Rigger license, and workers who erect, jump, or dismantle tower cranes, including licensed riggers and rigger foremen.
For license holders, 1 RCNY 104-06 requires you to complete a DOB-approved tower crane rigging course of at least 8 hours during the 1 year immediately before you renew. DOB's renewal page asks for this course certificate with your renewal application. The course does not renew the license by itself; you still file the renewal and pay DOB's fee.
For workers, Building Code section 3319.10.1 calls for an 8-hour recertification course within 3 years of the initial 30-hour course and every 3 years after that. Your training provider issues a dated certificate, and the Climber/Tower Crane Rigger certification lives on your DOB Worker Wallet card, the only card accepted for it on NYC job sites. The Worker Wallet does not replace your SST card.
The course covers the same subjects as the 30-hour course, with a focus on what has changed since your last renewal: new code sections, rules, bulletins, and recent NYC incidents. It is instructor-led and taught in English, in person, live online, or hybrid. It has no hands-on component and is not self-paced. It ends with a written multiple-choice assessment in class.
