Your NYC SST Supervisor Card renewal under Option 2
SST Supervisor Card Renewal: Option 2 is a 16-hour package of two NYC DOB Site Safety Training courses: 8-Hour Fall Prevention and 8-Hour Site Safety (SST Only). It satisfies Option 2 of DOB's three renewal options for an SST Supervisor Card.
SST cards are valid for 5 years from issuance, and Local Law 196 of 2017 requires a current card on NYC sites that need a Site Safety Plan. Under Local Law 10 of 2026, a card that expires on or after May 3, 2026 can be renewed up to one year after it expires. You cannot work on site with an expired card during that year. After the year, you need a new card and the full training. You do not retake OSHA to renew.
This option suits supervisors and competent persons who want two full 8-hour refreshers: one on fall protection and one on site safety oversight, codes, notification and stop work orders. It does not include Mental Health Awareness; Options 1 and 3 do. 8-Hour Site Safety (SST Only) counts as SST credit only. It does not renew a Site Safety Manager, Site Safety Coordinator or Construction Superintendent certificate. Both courses are awareness-level.
Every course is online and self-paced, with narrated slides, knowledge checks after each module and a final exam. You need 70% to pass each exam. Seat time is tracked, so no course can be finished faster than its required hours. Take the courses in any order. You will be asked to verify your identity. When you finish, your training provider processes your renewal following DOB's process.

What you'll learn
Drawn from the training objectives in DOB's outlines for the courses in this package.
- Name the three types of fall hazard and state which trigger height governs: general work, scaffolds or steel erection.
- Calculate total fall distance for a shock-absorbing lanyard and a self-retracting lifeline, and choose an anchorage from the result.
- List what a written rescue plan contains, and confirm one is in place before work at height begins.
- Identify which site safety roles a job requires (manager, coordinator or construction superintendent) and what triggers each.
- State who must notify DOB of a construction incident, within what time, and what may not be moved afterward.
- State what a stop work order is, what work is still allowed under one, and how a violation is resolved.

Questions
My card has expired. Can I still renew?
Under Local Law 10 of 2026, a card that expires on or after May 3, 2026 can be renewed up to one year after it expires. You cannot work on site with an expired card during that year. After the year is up, you need a new card, which means the full new-card training.
Do I have to retake OSHA to renew?
No. OSHA does not need to be retaken for an SST card renewal. You only complete the refresher courses in your chosen renewal option.
How do the three Supervisor renewal options differ?
All three are 16 hours and any one renews a Supervisor card. SST Supervisor Card Renewal: Option 1 is 8-Hour Fall Prevention, 4-Hour Supported Scaffold, 2-Hour Mental Health Awareness and 2-Hour Tool Box Talks. SST Supervisor Card Renewal: Option 2 is 8-Hour Fall Prevention and 8-Hour Site Safety. SST Supervisor Card Renewal: Option 3 is 8-Hour Site Safety, 4-Hour Fall Prevention, 2-Hour Mental Health Awareness and 2-Hour Tool Box Talks.
Do I need Mental Health Awareness to renew?
Not with this option. Since August 1, 2026, DOB has added 2-Hour Mental Health Awareness to some renewal options, always paired with 2-Hour Tool Box Talks or 2-Hour Pre-Task Meeting. This option does not include it. If you want it in your renewal, choose SST Supervisor Card Renewal: Option 1 or SST Supervisor Card Renewal: Option 3.
Does the 8-Hour Site Safety course renew my Site Safety Manager or Coordinator certificate?
No. 8-Hour Site Safety (SST Only) counts as SST credit only. It does not renew a Site Safety Manager, Site Safety Coordinator or Construction Superintendent certificate.
When should I take the renewal training?
Finish the refresher training before your card expires, and within the year before you renew. If your card has already expired, you can still renew within the one-year grace period, but you cannot work on site until it is renewed.
Can I use this package to renew a Worker card?
You do not need to. A Worker card renews with 8 hours. See SST Worker Card Renewal: Option 1 or SST Worker Card Renewal: Option 2.
Can I take the courses in any order?
Yes. Take them in any order and stop and return as you need to. Seat time is tracked, so each course takes at least its required hours, and you need 70% on each final exam.
